Alka was the leading lady in 'Wapas' (1969) as Rekha. She played a strong woman who went against her mother's wishes, left her rich family, and married a struggling singer Ajay, played by Ajay Verekar. She also had a major role opposite Deb Mukherjee in'A nsoo Ban Gaye Phool' (1969). The rather popular song Jaane Kaisa Hai Mera Deewana, sung by Asha Bhosle and Kishore Kumar, featured her and Deb Mukherjee. Known as a supporting actress in the 1960's & 1970's, she also had guest appearances in many films. Her most memorable later role was in 'Kalicharan,' where she played the sister of the hero, played by Shatrughan Sinha. However, her career did not go well, and like that of many other once-prominent actors, ended in the late 1970's.

Married to music director Ganesh (Pyarelal's brother).

Real name is Firdous (Firdaus).

She left Bombay in 1977 and she not only manages her own store and acts in videos, but also works as the dining room manager at the Miramar Hotel, Santa Barbara,USA (1994).
